Mitch Jago introduces his website, Mitch Jago Writing.

Mitch Jago has been employed in the oil and gas engineering industry for fifty years, starting out in the City of London, England as an apprentice piping designer in the early 1970’s.

He worked on those green, slopy things in open-plan, smoke-filled drawing offices before accepting overseas assignments in Africa, Europe, North and South America while also supporting engineering projects being executed in Asia.

His responsibilities over the years include managing teams of 100+ resources, writing procedures and specifications for the projects while providing audit and oversight of large, global contracts.

TECHNICAL WRITING

Any engineering project is supported by documentation that steer the engineering teams toward the goal of issuing engineering deliverables at the end of a specific phase of the project.

These deliverables then help drive the fabrication and construction activities, prior to commissioning and startup.

Over the course of varied projects Mitch has contributed to the development of these documents and as such, can offer support where required.

This includes:

  • Constructive criticism to already prepared specifications

  • Work processes, standards and guides

  • Support for “Lessons Learned” reports and directives may also be considered

  • Editing support for bid proposals

MENTORING

Being employed in the oil and gas engineering sector for 50 years, it’s time I considered an opportunity to give something back to an industry that has served me well. After giving the whole idea some thought, it occurred to me that just as I was starting out and my old man helped me with a foot up, I might be able to offer something on similar lines to other youngsters looking for a career.

To anyone who may be interested in an opportunity to immerse themselves into something that is rewarding, occasionally lucrative, offers travel opportunity and the chance of engaging in engineering mega-projects in any number of locations around the world, I would be happy to start a conversation on the subject.

This would include the positive and negative components of the industry, the potential salaries being offered out there, the different types of engineering available to a young graduate and some timelines it might take to get from where you are now, to a fully qualified contributor in a wonderful business.

TRAVEL STORIES

From time to time Mitch will share stories and images from his experiences.
